About 66 million years ago, at the end of the Mesozoic era, at a point in time, often referred to as the Cretaceous Paleogene K Pg boundary, a cataclysmic event wiped out about 75% of the entire planetary species, including the non avian dinosaurs, who were until then, the apex predators. This mass extinction is now believed to have been orchestrated by the impact of a 10 Km size asteroid, that created the 180 Km diameter Chicxulub Crater, near the Yucatan peninsula in Mexico. The energy released through the explosion is estimated to be about 100 teratonnes of TNT. This explosion energy was about a billion times the energy output of atomic bombs dropped on Hiroshima and Nagasaki. Evidence suggests that this cataclysmic impact ignited a series of natural disasters that eventually led to the mass extinction of many species of plants and animals on the planet. The sulfuric acid aerosols released into the upper levels of the atmosphere, due to the impact, must have blocked out sunlight for at least a year, inhibiting photosynthesis. Firestorms, acid rains, megatsunamis, exposure to infrared radiation and extreme greenhouse effect further exacerbated the disaster, turning this event into a global catastrophe. Considering the threat of a apocalyptic collision of a space object on Earth, in the near future, the Torino Scale is devised to measure the potential threat of a future collision event. It is a scale ranging from 0 to 10, with increasing values that indicate the degree of impact certainty and explosion magnitude. Statistically, larger the meteorite, lower is the probability of its impact. Our planet is constantly bombarded with micrometeorites, but the falling of larger meteorites is comparatively rarer and less probable.

Basically you "could" waste your time completely with zero affect, you "could" even boost their rankings if they're not caught and not all are caught or acted upon, or you "could" get them penalized. With varying probabilities like that, no one in their right mind would spend time/money/resources on smacking a customer up with a dodgy link profile. Aside from that, I suspect/expect that there are far more complex signals involved here. similarities to guilt "beyond reasonable doubt" such as in the justice system, where you'd have to set off a few different alarm bells more than a couple of times before anything happens. So if Google came along and saw a site with a clean history, some okay rankings, some decent usage data, etc. a normal looking link profile. and then that site suddenly gets a whole bunch of crappy links, well then I would assume Google would rather ignore those links and assign no value than punish a site that may be innocent. let's face it, what's the % of sites that recieved those warnings who were totally innocent?None of our clients have had them, and there HAS been dodgy activity in the past with their link profiles. so it's not even hitting sites which "might" be guilty, just those that "very probably" are. I think that because Google doesn't punish all offenders of this it's unlikely to attack competitors with link spam. Basically you "could" waste your time completely with zero affect, you "could" even boost their rankings if they're not caught and not all are caught or acted upon, or you "could" get them penalized.

The following is excerpted from Lying In State: Why Presidents Lie And Why Trump Is Worse, a fascinating new book by historian and media critic Eric Alterman that traces the decline of truthfulness in public life that has led to our present predicament. In his chapter on Bill Clinton, Alterman bluntly discusses the lie that led to Clinton's impeachment, but then dissects the deeper layers of hypocrisy that surrounded him in Washington, both on Capitol Hill and among the national press corps. More than one of Clinton's pursuers has since been found guilty of worse misconduct. In certain ways, we are still living with the toxic legacy of the Clinton impeachment more than 20 years later. The entire panic over the Monica Lewinsky affair and the Clinton impeachment proceedings appear even odder in retrospect than they did at the time. It's not merely that Clinton's sins pale in comparison to those of Donald Trump, with regard to both his life and the scale of his lying. It was widely known at the time of the Lewinsky scandal that many of the people who had undertaken the responsibility of investigating and ultimately impeaching Clinton were themselves liars about all manner of criminal activity, including crimes far more serious than mere adultery. The House Judiciary Committee that led the impeachment inquiry was chaired by Illinois Representative Henry Hyde, a Republican from Illinois, whoowing to the efforts of the man whose marriage he broke upwas later forced to admit to having had an affair with a married mother of three children while married himself. Hyde chalked up the affair to a "youthful indiscretion" committed when he was just an innocent lad of forty one. The final proceedings leading to the impeachment vote began on a decidedly dramatic note when the Republican House Speakerelect, Bob Livingston of Louisiana, announced that he was resigning from Congress over his own four adulterous affairs, which were about to be exposed by Hustler magazine. Livingston had been chosen by Republicans to replace Newt Gingrich, who had been forced to resign over financial improprieties.
